The root cause of most diseases is inefficient digestion. If you have a healthy digestive system, it yields radiance to the body. That brings us to yoga, many poses of which are designed to help cleanse the body and soothe specific internal organs.

Ancient yogis concluded that the body's organs, especially the digestive system, could benefit from being compressed, twisted and massaged from the outside. While most modern yoga classes focus on the muscular and skeletal aspects of poses, the postures were designed with a specific internal organ or system in mind - not necessarily as a focus on the muscles and bones, as we think of it today.

There are many yoga poses which can help to improve digestion. But from all those, I am picking the two main but simple ones, which are easy even for a beginner.

The spinal twist will aid digestion by making it easier for food to move through the intestine. Meanwhile, the cobra pose helps stretch the abdominal muscles, stimulates circulation, improves digestion and relieves constipation.

Spinal twist

*

Sit on the ground with your right leg bent.

*

Cross your left leg over the right and rest the sole of the left foot on the outside of your right knee.

*

Support the left hand behind you on the ground and the right hand outside the left knee.

*

Twist your body to the left as far as is comfortable

*

Remain in that position for 10 seconds as you inhale and exhale freely.

Repeat the pose on your right side.

Continue 4 to 6 times

Cobra

*

Lie on your stomach with your arms bent, elbows close to the body, palms down in front of the shoulders.

*

Inhale and raise your head, neck and back as you straighten your arms. You can bend your head back or look straight ahead.

*

Stay in that position for 10 seconds, and then lower yourself to the ground as you exhale.

*

Continue 4 to 6 times.
